ESTABLISHING THE CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT OR THEIR DESIGNEE AS THE CITY REPRESENTATIVE ON THE ALBUQUERQUE REGIONAL ECONOMIC ALLIANCE (AREA) BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
WHEREAS, Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance (AREA) is the newly rebranded Albuquerque Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, AREA is a regional organization that promotes economic development within the Albuquerque metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the AREA 1.0 Regional Plan for Economic Growth and Resiliency lists the following three goals: GOAL 1 Establish National Identity as Leading Location for Business, GOAL 2 Attract, Retain and Align Talent, GOAL 3 Break Down Barriers to Regional Competitiveness; and
WHEREAS, AREA has a Board of Directors comprised of business, real estate, and elected officials from the Albuquerque region; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque provides funds to support the work of AREA; and
WHEREAS, at present there is no City of Albuquerque representative on the board of directors; and
WHEREAS, the City Council provides representatives to boards for multiple different local organizations, including but not limited to the Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Visit Albuquerque, Explora, and the New Mexico Municipal League; and
WHEREAS, given the regional importance of AREA, the City Council President or their designee should provide representation on the AREA board of directors.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
SECTION 1. The City of Albuquerque representative on the AREA board of directors shall be a member of the City Council appointed by the President.
