I am submitting for your advice and consent the following name for appointment to the
Arts Board in accordance with the City of Albuquerque Ordinance 10-5-3.

Welly Fletcher is currently an Assistant Professor of Sculpture in the Department of Art: Studio, History, Education at the University of New Mexico, where they teach all levels of sculpture at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Fletcher was recently awarded 2021/22 New Teacher of the Year by the university. Fletcher was an active participant in the 2020 City of Albuquerque's Race, History and Healing Project, convening in productive dialogues resulting in community-led recommendations related to the public art installation La Jornada. Welly Fletcher is deeply invested in the impact that art - and sculpture in particular - can have on audiences.
Fletcher is one of Southwest Contemporary's 2022 12 New Mexico Artists to Know Now. SLANT, their 2023 exhibition at Richard Levy Gallery was a critics pick in Artforum. They have exhibited widely and have been awarded artist residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, CA, Stello in Portland, OR, and Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, CO. Their work has been featured in numerous publications including the Albuquerque Journal, Sinister Wisdom and the Portland Tribune.


A resident of Council District 6, Mx. Fletcher will fill a vacancy and be the District 6 representative on the board; their first term will expire on July 31, 2028.
