1 ADOPTING THE MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN FOR
2 THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE AND BERNALILLO COUNTY.
3 WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is vulnerable to natural hazards such as flash floods, wildfire, and drought as well as human-caused hazards that can result in loss of life, property loss, economic hardship, and threats to public health and safety; and
4 WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has
5 required that every municipality and county have a pre-disaster mitigation
6 plan in place, and requires municipalities to adopt such plans in order to be eligible to receive funding from the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program; and
1 WHEREAS, a Hazard Mitigation Plan is a community's plan for evaluating
2 hazards, identifying resources and capabilities, selecting appropriate actions, and developing and implementing the preferred mitigation actions to eliminate or reduce future damage in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents in that community; and
3 WHEREAS, in 2007, the City Council adopted the 2007 Bernalillo County
4 and City of Albuquerque Hazard Mitigation Plan pursuant to Resolution R-07- 288, enactment No. R-2007-091; and
5 WHEREAS, in 2015, the City Council approved an update to the Bernalillo
6 County and City of Albuquerque Hazard Mitigation Plan pursuant to Resolution R-15-236, enactment No. R-2015-087; and
7 WHEREAS, a 2021 update to the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Hazard Mitigation Plan has been developed by the Mitigation Planning Team, which includes representatives from the City's Office of Emergency Management and Bernalillo County Emergency Manag...
