APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF $75,000 IN LEGISLATIVE FUNDS FOR "IT TAKES A VILLAGE" MENTORSHIP PROGRAM AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2022.
WHEREAS, Chapter 140, Section 3 of New Mexico Laws of 2021, Senate Bill 377, sets forth general fund appropriations for expenditure in fiscal year 2022, and include in subparagraph (e) thereof seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) for the It Takes a Village mentorship program for struggling and high-risk youth in Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, It Takes a Village is a partnership-based program which will work to incorporate a culturally responsive mentorship model to enrich the lives of Black youth and young adults by coordinating with mentors and other organizations; and
WHEREAS, It Takes a Village will create an empowering space to navigate social, academic, and economic growth that all youth and young adults must learn; and
WHEREAS, It Takes a Village will employ a culturally responsive and restorative justice approach that affirms the mentees' self-identity, cultural knowledge, and confidence; and
WHEREAS, It Takes a Village will equip mentees with the tools to become leaders and develop skills to navigate life; and
WHEREAS, It Takes a Village will serve as a positive intervention by building a supportive and collaborative network for Black Youth; and
WHEREAS, the funding for It Takes a Village shall be used to support costs and activities associated with the mentorship program; and
