APPROVING AN AWARD FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY FOR EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES, BEGINNING IN FISCAL YEAR 2021.                     

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Treasury has awarded $24,058,313 in Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) to the City of Albuquerque; and

WHEREAS, the ERA funds are for renters who are at or below 80% area median income, have been directly or indirectly impacted by COVID-19 and are at risk of homelessness or housing instability; and

WHEREAS, the ERA funds may be used to provide up to 15 months of assistance to eligible households for unpaid rent and utilities as well as future rent; and

                     WHEREAS, many renters in Albuquerque are struggling to pay their rent due to COVID-19 and are at risk of eviction once the state and federal moratoriums on evictions expire.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:

                     Section 1. That the City’s application to the U.S. Treasury for $24,058,313.80 in ERA funding is hereby approved.

                     Section 2. That the $24,058,313.80 in ERA funds are hereby appropriated to the Department of Family Community Services in the Operating Grants Fund (265), beginning in Fiscal Year 2021.                     

In addition to any other eligible expenditures of this funding source, these funds will be made available to assist eligible renters with payment of security deposits.
