APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING A GRANT AGREEMENT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES (COPS OFFICE) AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT (APD) FOR FISCAL YEAR 2021.
WHEREAS, APD submitted a grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice through its Cops Hiring Program (CHP). The grant application was approved and a grant agreement in the amount of $9,740,029 was sent to the City of Albuquerque for approval; and
WHEREAS, the estimated IDOH in the amount of $545,441.62 ($9,740,029 x 5.6%) is required to support this grant and will need to be available in the Fiscal Year 2021 Transfer to Operating grants fund program in the general fund; and the CHP does not allow for reimbursement of indirect costs; and
WHEREAS, this grant will assist APD in combatting violent crime; boost prosecution of violent actors and their organizations; and increase capacity to prosecute cases in federal court; and
WHEREAS, the grant will pay for 100% of entry level salaries and fringe benefits of newly hired and/or re-hired full-time sworn career law enforcement officers over three years up to a maximum of $125,000 per position.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
