APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE CITIES FOR FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT FUND, INC. AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2019.

WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Office of Equity and Inclusion in the Legal Department has released an Equity Profile of Albuquerque that shows an increase of people working full-time but not being able to make ends meet; and

WHEREAS, this report shows that 26% of Native American women, 18% of Latino and Native American men, and 15% of Latina women work full time, but do not earn enough to support their families; and

WHEREAS, research shows that greater economic inclusion fosters stronger economic growth; and

WHEREAS, the Cities for Financial Empowerment (CFE) Fund works to support municipal engagement to improve the financial stability of low and moderate income households by embedding financial empowerment strategies into local government infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, the City applied for and has been granted $20,000 from the CityStart Initiative of Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:

                     Section 1. That the agreement with Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund in the amount of $20,000 is hereby approved, and its acceptance and filing with appropriate official or office is an in all respects approved.

                     Section 2. That funds in the amount of $20,000 are hereby appropriated to the Legal Department Office of Equity and Inclusion in the Operating Grants Fund (265) for Fiscal Year 2019.
