WIDENING SIDEWALKS IN THE HISTORIC NOB HILL CORRIDOR, COMPLETING THE INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT STATION, AND RESTORING PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALKS TO INCREASE PEDESTRIAN SAFETY, WALKABILITY, AND COMMERCE.
WHEREAS, wider sidewalks promote pedestrian safety, increase access to businesses, and create a more walkable district; and
WHEREAS, one of the benefits resulting from the ART project is improved walkability, including widened sidewalks, "creating public 'places of the soul' that connect & uplift our community", and increased connectivity for businesses and residence; and
WHEREAS, other areas of the plan for ART include driving lane widths of ten feet and bus lane widths of eleven feet, in combination with street side parking, such as area between Sycamore Street and University Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, the International District is one of the most heavily transit dependent areas of the city; and
WHEREAS, the expected ridership in the International District warrants a station in the area of San Pedro which currently has a one mile gap between stations; and
WHEREAS, additional pedestrian activity related to ART will require marked pedestrian crosswalks in Nob Hill.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. Immediately following the conclusion of the Albuquerque Rapid Transit construction on Central Avenue, the Administration is directed to:
