APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF A GRANT APPLICATION FOR A FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES DEPARTMENT AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is desirous of providing nutritious breakfasts, lunches and snacks to 870 economically disadvantaged children served through its child care development program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is desirous of providing nutritious dinners to 435 economically disadvantaged children participating in the “At-Risk Program” at community centers in the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County; and
WHEREAS, the State of New Mexico has made available $1,240,190 in State Funds to the City for the cost of providing such nutritious meals through a grant with the State’s Department of Children, Youth and Families (the Grant); and
WHEREAS, indirect costs and matching funds of $33,485 are required to support the Grant.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. The Mayor is hereby authorized to file an application for the Grant and to execute a grant agreement in the amount of $1,240,190 for the period of October 1, 2016 - September 30, 2017 with the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (NM CYFD), and to further do all things necessary and proper to obtain the Grant and implement the above referenced food services programs for economically disadvantaged children through the City’s Family and Community Services Department.
Section 2. The funds in the amount of $492,960, consisting of $480,000 from the NM CYFD and $12,960 of indirect costs from the Transfer to Operating Grants Fund in the General Fund (110) are hereby appropriated to the Department of Family and Community Services for its Child Development Centers food service program in the Operating Grants Fund (265) for Fiscal Year 2017.
Section 3. The funds in the amount of $780,715, consisting of $760,190 from the NM CYFD and $20,525 of indirect costs from the Transfer to Operating Grants Fund in the General Fund (110) are hereby appropriated to the Department of Family and Community Services for its “At-Risk” food service program in the Operating Grants Fund (265) for Fiscal Year 2017.
