ADOPTING THE DOWNTOWN ARTS & CULTURAL PLAN AND ESTABLISHING THE BOUNDARY OF THE DOWNTOWN ARTS & CULTURAL DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque Downtown area has been designated by the State of New Mexico MainStreet Program an Arts and Cultural District; and
WHEREAS, in 2011, the City Council accepted a $35,000 grant from the New Mexico State Economic Development Department's MainStreet Program for the purpose of developing a Downtown Arts and Cultural Plan; and
WHEREAS, adopted City policies have long called for a downtown that
celebrates the mixture of vintage and midcentury modern buildings, local businesses and cultural amenities; and which is safe, easily accessible, active 24 hours, and pedestrian oriented; and
WHEREAS, the Downtown Albuquerque Arts & Cultural District Steering Committee engaged key stakeholders and the public to identify opportunities in the district and create a Downtown Arts and Cultural Plan: "Multitude of Riches: A Blueprint for the Creative Development of Downtown Albuquerque," hereinafter referred to as "the Plan"; and
WHEREAS, the Plan provides a vision for cultivating the growth of arts, cultural and creative activity in downtown Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, the Plan produces an implementation guide intended to promote partnerships between local government, private and commercial entities, non-profit organizations, interested citizens, and business owners; and
WHEREAS, the Plan establishes four priorities generated by the community and industry experts: development of leadership capacity to implement the Plan, branding and marketing Downtown's cultural assets, continued development of arts...
