Approving and Authorizing The Filing of Agreement For A 100 Days and Nights of Summer Program With The State of New Mexico Department of Transportation, Traffic Safety Bureau and Providing For An Appropriation To The City of Albuquerque (Jones)

APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF THE ATTACHED AGREEMENT FOR A 100 DAYS AND NIGHTS OF SUMMER PROGRAM WITH THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, TRAFFIC SAFETY BUREAU AND PROVIDING FOR AN APPROPRIATION TO THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE.
      WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has as one of its goals to enhance local law enforcement efforts thereby providing for the public safety and welfare; and
      WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is committed to reducing incidences of aggressive driving and speeding, increasing seatbelt use, and reducing incidences of DWI; and  
      WHEREAS, grant funds in the amount of $40,000 will be used to pay officers overtime to enforce safety-related traffic laws; and  
      WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is desirous of accepting these funds for which indirect costs of $2,348 and FICA charges of $580 are required to support this grant and are available in the FY/08 Transfer to Operating Grants Fund Program in the General Fund.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
      Section 1.  That the attached grant agreement is hereby made a part of this resolution, is hereby approved and its submission and filing with the appropriate official or office of the New Mexico Department of Transportation is in all respects approved.  
      Section 2.  That upon award, funds in the amount of $40,000 from the New Mexico Department of Transportation, Traffic Safety Bureau and indirect costs of $2,348 and FICA charges of $580 from the Fiscal Year 2008 Transfer to Operating Grants Fund Program in the General Fund are hereby appropriated to the Albuquerque Police Department in the Operating Grants Fund, 265, for Fiscal Year 2008 and 2009.
