Requesting The Administration Create Two Committees To Address Cruising Issues And Alternatives To Cruising; Establishing Pilot Programs Of Activities For Youth In The Northeast Heights And The West Side; Requiring Reports.
WHEREAS, cruising and drag racing on Montgomery Boulevard and cruising West Central have created safety hazards to motorists, pedestrians and property; and
WHEREAS, less dangerous alternative activities in the Northeast Heights and the West Side areas would decrease the number of young vehicle operators engaging in cruising and drag racing on Montgomery Boulevard and cruising West Central; and
WHEREAS, two committees comprised of knowledgeable people representing impacted interest groups and parties from each area could consider solutions and remedies to cruising and drag racing and develop and evaluate various alternatives to cruising and drag racing; and
WHEREAS, successful programs of youth activities developed for the Northeast Heights and West Side areas by the aforementioned committees could be implemented in other parts of the city to entice young people away from cruising and drag racing.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That the Administration appoint a committee comprised of four youth representatives from the Northeast Heights area; two representatives from the Northeast Heights business community; two representatives from neighborhood associations bordering Montgomery Boulevard; one representative of the faith community; one representative of the Albuquer...
