APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE AND USE OF GRANT FUNDS FOR AN AMENDMENT TO THE COMMUNITY ENERGY EFFICIENCY DEVELOPMENT (CEED) BLOCK GRANT AND AUTHORIZING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT IN FISCAL YEAR 2026.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque was awarded the first Community Energy Efficiency Development (CEED) Block Grant Agreement 25-521-0300-0153 from the New Mexico Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) on February 19, 2025; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque, per a requirement of the CEED Block Grant award, adopted Council Bill O-25-74 on February 24, 2025; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has a goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050; and
WHEREAS, 56% of the greenhouse gas emissions are from heating and cooking in our own homes and businesses; and
WHEREAS, the 2021 Climate Action Plan states goals for reducing carbon emissions from our homes and buildings by maximizing energy efficiency, especially in low-income communities; and
WHEREAS, the Sustainability Office provides the technical means of carrying out the energy efficiency goals of the 2021 Climate Action Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Sustainability Office applied for a second round of funding to increase the original award by $417,500 through an amendment to the CEED Block Grant; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has been notified that the award amendment, increasing the original award by $417,500, has been approved, and does not require a share match.
