Appropriating State Funds From The New Mexico Environment Department's Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Program For Diesel Emission Reduction Projects Throughout New Mexico (Fiebelkorn, by request)

WHEREAS, the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Program provides funding to projects that will offset the excess emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emitted by affected Volkswagen vehicles registered within New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, among the choices available to Transit agencies, battery electric buses are the best option due to low life cycle agency costs and environmental and health impacts from greenhouse and air pollutant emissions; and
WHEREAS, the above project supports the desired community condition for safe and affordable integrated transportation options associated with Goal 3 -Public Infrastructure on the City's Five-Year Goals Plan; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to accept and appropriate these state funds in the amount of $817,826 for electric buses which will result in lower levels of emissions from the entire fleet of light and heavy-duty vehicles.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That the attached application to the New Mexico Environment Department Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Program for the financing of electric buses in the amount of $817,826 is hereby approved, and its acceptance and filing with the appropriate official or office is in all respects approved.
Section 2. That upon award, funds from this trust in the amount of $817,826 consisting of state funds from the New Mexico Environment Department's Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Program are hereby appropriated to the Capital Fund 305 for Fiscal Year 2023.
