Pursuant to the provisions of § 9-4-1-5 of the Police Oversight Ordinance, City Council staff shall submit recommendations for appointments to the Civilian Police Oversight Advisory Board.  City Council staff recommends the appointment of Ms. Leslie McAhren to the Civilian Police Oversight Advisory Board.

If appointed, Ms. Mc Ahren would be the would be one of the initial appointments to the revamped Civilian Police Oversight Advisory Board.  Ms. McAhren’s first three-year term will expire February 2, 2026.

Leslie McAhren is a dynamic professional committed to serving her community. As the founder and executive director of C.G. Corrigan, a cannabis research non-profit, she leverages her Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University to drive public health initiatives.  Ms. McAhren’s extensive experience in creating CME programs for physicians, her membership in the Medical Reserve Corps, and her background as a former firefighter and EMT-B provide her with a unique perspective on public safety and the importance of community engagement. With a passion for Albuquerque and a commitment to social work and research, Ms. McAhren is determined to make a positive impact in New Mexico. Her creative problem-solving skills, combined with her desire to help, make her a valuable asset to the Civilian Police Oversight Advisory Board as she seeks to improve public safety and enhance community trust.
