ESTABLISHING LEGISLATIVE AND BUDGET PRIORITIES FOR THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE FOR THE FIRST SESSION OF THE 56TH NEW MEXICO STATE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, the State of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque, a municipal subdivision of the State, are charged with providing for the public’s health, welfare and safety; and
WHEREAS, the State of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque strive to create policies and programs to provide for just and equitable communities and often share missions, and work cooperatively, to provide citizens mental and physical health services, job and food security and quality civic infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, many of the facilities provided by, and services offered through, the City of Albuquerque have a regional impact. These facilities and services benefit residents of Albuquerque, Central New Mexico and citizens from throughout the State. To succeed in acquiring the funds to construct and improve these amenities requires a joint effort between the State of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is one community created through many neighborhoods that require continual investment. Efforts to fund these neighborhood projects are multi-year combined efforts between neighborhood groups, Albuquerque City Councilors, New Mexico State Legislators and often Bernalillo County Commissioners and service non-profits.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
SECTION 1. The City of Albuquerque encourages the New Mexico Legislature to adopt policies, programs and funding, as identified in the Attachment to this Resolution, to provide the residents of Albuquerque, and all the people of New Mexico, safe and healthy communities, quality infrastructure, and robust economic development. The City especially urges the legislature to adopt legislation that accomplishes the following:
• Furthers public safety programs and ensures equitable law enforcement
and strengthens the State’s criminal justice system,
• Creates and bolsters human services for those in need of assistance
regarding behavioral and physical health, economic opportunity, and shelter,
• Mitigates the impact of climate change,
• Supports local governments in building capacity to produce affordable
housing,
• To partner with the City to fund City Council District projects that
benefit neighborhoods, and
• Adopt legislation for City-Wide Programs and Policies identified in the
Attachment to this Resolution.
