Mayor's appointment of Dr. Michael Patrick M. Martin to the Transit Advisory Board

body

I am submitting for your advice and consent the following name for appointment to the Transit Advisory Board in accordance with the City of Albuquerque Ordinance 2-7-1.

APPOINTEE NAME      TERM

Dr. Michael Patrick M. Martin                                                        September 30, 2025  Albuquerque, NM 87106   Dr. Martin is an educator, mathematician, and data scientist who is originally from Phoenix, Arizona. After going to graduate school to get a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, he saw the difference in quality of life having varied and effective transit options can bring. As he's watched his hometown try to rebuild its downtown and expand its transit over the past decade, he hopes to prevent Albuquerque from repeating the same mistakes of our sister city to the west.  He hopes to bring to the Transit Advisory Board his lived experience as a resident who primarily travels by bus and bicycle and hence is acutely aware of the effects transit decisions have on people's lives. This will be augmented by his expertise as a data scientist, bringing the ability to understand, process, and communicate the varied types of data that underlie the transit decisions facing the city. He also brings experience in public presentations, volunteer management, and event planning from over seven years of work in the non-profit sector, as he currently acts as the Director of Substantive Issues for the Executive Committee of American Model United Nations.   A resident of Council District 6, Dr. Martin will fill an at-large position and will replace Mr. Christopher Ramirez whose term has expired; his first term will expire on September 30, 2025.
