APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF A GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE CHOICE NEIGHBORHOODS PLANNING GRANT WITH THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT, FOR FISCAL YEAR 2023 THROUGH FISCAL YEAR 2024.
WHEREAS, the 60th Street Albuquerque Housing Authority public housing project is located along Albuquerque's famous stretch of Historic Route 66; and
WHEREAS, the 60th Street public housing project is home to 42 existing 3- and 4-bedroom family residences; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Housing Authority intends to add 46 new residences on adjoining, vacant property; and
WHEREAS, the community surrounding the 60th Street public housing project needs rehabilitation and activation; and
WHEREAS, rehabilitation and activation of this property and the surrounding neighborhood will have a significant impact on reducing crime in this underserved area; and
WHEREAS, this grant application is a collaborative effort between the Albuquerque City Council, the Albuquerque Housing Authority, the West Central Community Development Group, the University of New Mexico's Community and Regional Planning Department, and Groundworks Studio; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque will apply for these grant funds for which the City match funds in the amount of $26,316 City cash match will meet matching requirements; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque City Council will be the lead applicant for the CHOICE Neighborhoods Planning Grant.
