CONCERNING THE MUNICIPAL RUNOFF ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO, ON TUESDAY, THE SEVENTH DAY OF DECEMBER, 2021.

                     WHEREAS, a regular local election was held to elect City of Albuquerque officials on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021, at which election the offices of Mayor and City Councilor for Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 were to be filled in accordance with the City Charter; and

                     WHEREAS, the preliminary results of the regular local election show that no candidate received at least 50% of the vote in the election of the City Councilors for Districts 7 and 9; and

                     WHEREAS, the City Charter requires a runoff election within forty-five days after certification of the regular local election in the event no candidate receives 50 percent of the votes cast for a particular office.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:

                     Section 1. A municipal runoff election shall be held in the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico on Tuesday, December 7th, 2021 for those offices where no candidate received 50 percent of the votes cast for the office to be filled at the November 2, 2021 regular local election. The two candidates who received the highest number of votes cast for the office in question shall automatically become the candidates in the runoff election without further Resolution of the City Council and no filing of declarations of candidacy shall be required of such candidates.

                     Section 2. The runoff election shall apply only to those races in the regular local election for the offices of City Council District 7 and City Council District 9, which elections did not result in a candidate that received 50 percent of the vote. 

                     Section 3. The candidates in the runoff election shall be as follows. In Council District 7 the candidates shall be Lori Lee Robertson and Tammy L Fiebelkorn. In District 9, the candidates shall be Reneé Grout and Robert C Grilley Jr.

                     Section 4. All persons desiring to vote at this election must be registered to vote within the City of Albuquerque. Any person who is otherwise qualified to vote and who is not currently registered may register with the Bernalillo County Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on November 16, 2021.

                     Section 5. The polls for this election shall be open at 7:00 a.m. and shall close at 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Election day voting locations shall be determined by the Bernalillo County Clerks Office.

                     Section 6. Absentee voting shall be permitted as authorized by law. Absentee applications may be obtained through the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office or online through the Secretary of State’s Office.

                     Section 7. Early voting shall be permitted as authorized by law. Early voting will be available Tuesday, November 16, 2021 through Saturday, December 4, 2021. Locations will be closed on November 25, 26, and 27. Early voting locations will be determined by the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office and administered as provided by law.

                     Section 8. This runoff municipal election Resolution shall be published once at least seven days prior to the runoff election date.
