I am submitting for your advice and consent the following name for appointment to the Early
Head Start Program Governance Advisory Committee in accordance with the City of
Albuquerque Ordinance 14-16.

Mary Becker is a pediatric speech-language pathologist (SLP) and developmental specialist who has dedicated her career to working with Albuquerque's children and families since moving to the community in the 1990s. She started working in daycares, and realized she could help more children by furthering her education. Mary and her husband have a combined family of 6 children, yet she put herself through college at TVI (now CNM) and UNM to become an SLP. Her extraordinary motivation fueled her while juggling the many responsibilities of family, employment, and academia. In 2008, Mary found her calling suppporting families of children from birth to three in early intervention, and never looked back. She has worked with hundreds of families and many community partners in early childhood, including Early Head Start. Mary is a creative thinker, and believes we only need to do what has always been done if it truly works. If not, it is time for thoughtful planning and implementation of new ideas and processes. Mary has recently been promoted to manager of the early intervention progam at LIfeROOTS, and is phasing into the role throughout May, 2021.
