Jonathan Wolfe is a New Mexico native who attended Escuela del Sol, Monte Vista, and the Albuquerque Academy. After earning his Bachelor's degree at Johns Hopkins and his Ph.D in visual neuroscience at University of Pennsylvania, he returned to Albuquerque to follow his passion - flying hot air balloons. As a scientist, artist, educator and entrepreneur, he formed the Fractal Foundation in 2003, a nonprofit whose mission is to inspire interest in science, math and art. He is the creator of the award winning planetarium show First Friday Fractals, in partnership with the NM Museum of Natural History and Science, which has sold out over 500 times. He is also the creator and pilot of the crowd-favorite Flying Fractals hot air balloons, which are digitally printed high resolution art balloons featuring the images of mathematical equations. These balloons are the largest, highest resolution images every produced, and serve as inspiring beacons of the beauty of math and science. They are rapidly becoming icons of Albuquerque, helping make it the Fractal Capital of the World.
A resident of Council District 6, Dr. Wolfe will represent that district on the Board, and his first term will expire July 31, 2023.
