I am submitting for your advice and consent the following name for appointment to the
Arts Board in accordance with the City of Albuquerque Ordinance 10-5-3.

Dr. Bernadine Hern?ndez is a educator, community activist, writer, and artist. She is an Assistant professor of American Literary History at the University of New Mexico. Her forthcoming book is titled Border Bodies: Racialized Sexuality, Sexual Capital, and Violence in the Nineteenth Century Borderlands (UNC Press). She has been working in the community for the last 10 years on issues related to migration, the border, and how New Mexico is responding to incarcerated populations and detained migrants. This work influences her writing and art work. She is the co-founding member of the Fronteristxs artist collective, a collective of artists in New Mexico working with community advocates to end migrant detention and to abolish the carceral state.
Dr. Hern?ndez, a resident of Council District 6, will fill a vacancy and serve in an at-large position. Her first term will expire July 31, 2022.
