Approving Submittal Of Grant Applications By The Parks And Recreation Department To The New Mexico Finance Authority, Water Trust Board (Davis, by request)

APPROVING SUBMITTAL OF GRANT APPLICATIONS BY THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT TO THE NEW MEXICO FINANCE AUTHORITY, WATER TRUST BOARD.

WHEREAS, water is New Mexico’s most precious natural resource; and

WHEREAS, water conservation is extremely important for the City of Albuquerque in general; and

WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department has an ongoing program to update aging irrigation systems and improve efficient water use and water conservation at City parks and recreation facilities; and

WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department plans to submit grant applications to the Water Trust Board of the New Mexico Finance Authority that seek funds for high priority irrigation renovations and water conservation projects at Phil Chacon Park, Netherwood Park, and Ladera Golf Course; and

WHEREAS, completion of these projects will save millions of gallons of water annually in the State of New Mexico’s largest metropolitan area; and

WHEREAS, the grant applications require a Resolution from the appropriate governing body regarding such applications.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:

That the City Council authorizes and approves submittal of these grant applications and urges the Water Trust Board to act favorably on the requests.
