APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE W.K. KELLOGG FOUNDATION AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT FOR FISCAL YEARS 2020, 2021 and 2022

WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Economic Development Department has received an NM Pathways Project for Bernalillo County study that found that there is a need for more collaboration among groups working to assure access to economic opportunities; and

WHEREAS, this report shows that 40% of stakeholders felt collaboration would have the greatest impact while also acknowledging that there is no entity serving as a hub and convener; and

WHEREAS, research shows that a more coordinated workforce development system fosters stronger economic growth; and

WHEREAS, The W.K. Kellogg Foundation works to support municipal initiatives to improve employment equity among low and moderate income households by strengthening worker pipeline programs, aligning workforce development strategies, and making career advancement programs accessible for low and moderate income households; and

WHEREAS, The City applied for  $450,000 from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation; and

WHEREAS, the grant funding, as awarded, would be dispersed one year at a time, for $250,000 in 2020/2021, and $200,000 in 2021/2022.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:

                     Section 1. That the agreement with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in the amount of $450,000 is hereby approved, and its acceptance and filing with appropriate official or office is an in all respects approved.

                     Section 2. That funds in the amount of $450,000 are hereby appropriated to the Economic Development Department in the Operating Grants Fund (265) for Fiscal Year 2020, 2021 and 2022.
