Mayor's Appointment of Mr. Raul S. Chavira to the Greater Albuquerque Bicycling Advisory Committee
body

I am submitting for your advice and consent the following name for appointment to the Greater
Albuquerque Bicycling Advisory Committee in accordance with the City of Albuquerque
Ordinance 14-13-3-6.

APPOINTEE NAME TERM

Mr. Raul S. Chavira April 1, 2021
514 Morris St NE
Albuquerque, NM 87123

Mr. Raul Chavira is 17 years old and was born and raised in Albuquerque. He has been dependent on manual-based transportation for most of his life and currently uses a combination of public transit, long board, and a bike to get to school, work, health care appointments and recreational opportunities. He has been organizing in Albuquerque for over 3 years. He would like to leverage his experiences as a Youth Consultant with Together for Brothers, Making Connections: International District, and The Obama Foundations: My Brother's Keeper Alliance for GBAC. His organizing experience began with Hiyupo Alliance at Native American Community Academy, a program focused on holistic wellness and creating an environment for youth to heal, grow, and thrive. His main focus is on increasing capacity for himself, his peers, and community, and to make cycling in Albuquerque safer, create opportunities for people to work on their own bikes, and change laws and policies which burden bicyclists and public transit users.

A resident of Council District 9, Mr. Chavira will serve as the South East Area Representative on the Committee and his first term will expire April 1, 2021. He replaces David Stromberg who resigned from the Committee.
