AMENDING CHAPTER TWO, ARTICLE SIX OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF ALBUQUERQUE RELATING TO THE COMMISSION ON AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE AFFAIRS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
SECTION 1. SECTION 2-6-6-1 IS HEREBY AMENDED AS FOLLOWS: INTENT.
The City of Albuquerque acknowledges and affirms tribal
sovereignty and self-determination for tribal governments. It is the purpose of ?? 2-6-6-1 et seq., to recognize and formalize the government-to-government relationship between the City of Albuquerque and its adjacent tribal communities and to promote the health, safety, and general welfare of its citizenry through the creation of a Commission on American Indian and Alaska Native Affairs. The Commission serves as the forum for government-to-government relations and as an advocate for American Indian/Alaska Native affairs within the City of Albuquerque and the surrounding area, including, but not limited to, matters of employment, education, economy, health, environment, homelessness, government, and access to services in the City.
SECTION 2. SECTION 2-6-6-2 IS HEREBY AMENDED AS FOLLOWS:
CREATION.
There is hereby created the "Commission on American Indian and Alaska Native Affairs" of the City, consisting of members as set forth below. Except as provided in ?? 2-6-6-1 et seq., the qualifications, appointment and conduct of the members of the Commission and the organizational structure of the Commission shall be governed by ? 2-6-1-1, et seq. ROA 1994.
