DESIGNATING FISCAL YEAR 2015 GENERAL FUND APPROPRIATIONS FOR SPONSORSHIP OF THE DOWNTOWN BIKE SHARE PILOT PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF COUNCIL SERVICES TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT FOR THIS PURPOSE.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has as one of its desired community conditions to provide safe and affordable integrated transportation options that meet the public's needs; and
WHEREAS, the DowntownABQ MainStreet Initiative has organized a pilot Downtown Bike Share program; and
WHEREAS, many cities have used bike share programs as a way to generate excitement and provide opportunities for residents and visitors to explore areas of interest in urban centers while reducing vehicle congestion; and
WHEREAS, bike share systems can raise driver awareness of bicyclists using roadway facilities in congested areas; and
WHEREAS, a pilot system will allow the City to assess operational costs and user interest in such a facility before taking on the long-term ownership and maintenance responsibilities for such a facility; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to sponsor the pilot Downtown Bike Share Program.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
SECTION 1. That the following designation is hereby made from the existing General Fund program strategy for operating City government in fiscal year 2015:
