RENAMING THE TRAILS PARK TO THE HAILEY RATLIFF TRAILS PARK IN REMEMBRANCE OF A YOUNG LIFE CUT SHORT.
WHEREAS, on September 28, 2012 two communities were changed forever by the premature death of young Hailey Ratliff; and
WHEREAS, Hailey and her family had recently moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Novato, California where she was hit by an SUV in a tragic accident while riding her bicycle home from school; and
WHEREAS, she left behind her parents, three younger brothers and many friends both at Tony Hillerman Middle School in Albuquerque and Sinoloa Middle School in Novato; and
WHEREAS, members of the community have reached out to the Parks Department and the City Council expressing a desire to rename The Trails Park in honor of Hailey Ratliff; and
WHEREAS, The Trails Park is located off of Rainbow Boulevard and Woodmont Avenue just north of Tony Hillerman Middle School; and
WHEREAS, many students walk and bike along Rainbow Boulevard when traveling to and from Tony Hillerman Middle School and Volcano Vista High School.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF
ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. The Trails Park is hereby named the "Hailey Ratliff Trails
Park" to remember Hailey Ratliff's life and remind everyone to drive carefully
and watch for children.
