APPROPRIATING FUNDS TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT TO PARTNER WITH INNOVATE + EDUCATE FOR FISCAL YEAR 2014 ON A WORKFORCE READINESS PROGRAM TITLED TALENT ALBUQUERQUE.
WHEREAS, over the past few years the City of Albuquerque has prioritized incentivizing economic development and job creation; and
WHEREAS, Innovate+Educate is an industry-led non-profit implementing research-based strategy to close national skills gap and bridge the opportunity divide; and
WHEREAS, Innovate+Educate has partnered with CNM and New Mexico Department of Workforce and will use matching funding from the New Options Project; and
WHEREAS, this program promotes the use of skills-based hiring, credentialing, and work-ready training to address the city's workforce skill gap and better match the workforce needs of employers with the skills and talents of New Mexico's jobseekers; and
WHEREAS, Innovate+Educate will develop a marketing plan including a communications strategy around Talent Albuquerque, including marketing to jobseekers, employers, education institutions and national stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, twenty-six city libraries and community centers will be utilized as "skill-up" center locations to strengthen jobseekers' skill sets for future employers; and
WHEREAS, the Kellogg Foundation has awarded a grant to Innovate+Educate that allow for a 2 for 1 match of City funds; and
WHEREAS, one-time money has been identified in the General Fund based on preliminary year-end numbers for Fiscal Year 2013.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
