Expressing Full Support For The Albuquerque-Bernalillo County (ABC) Community Schools Partnership And For The Community Schools Initiative (Winter, Garduño)
b
EXPRESSING FULL SUPPORT FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE-BERNALILLO COUNTY (ABC) COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PARTNERSHIP AND FOR THE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS INITIATIVE.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque, the County of Bernalillo and the Albuquerque Public Schools utilize their combined resources to increase parent involvement, student academic achievement and overall community quality of life; and
WHEREAS,       through the creation and support of collaborative working relationships with schools and the business community, social service agencies, government agencies, faith-based organizations, civic groups, neighborhood associations  and post secondary institutions; and
WHEREAS, support for the organizations necessary to create an effective and sustainable Community Schools System is a priority for the City of  Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, a Community School is both a set of partnerships and a place where services, supports, and opportunities lead to improved student learning, stronger families, and healthier communities; and
WHEREAS, a Community School differs from a traditional school because the various partners are not conducting business as usual. They are working together toward common results; changing their funding patterns, transforming the practice of their staffs, and working creatively and respectfully with youth, families, and residents to create a different kind of institution.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section  1.      That the City of Albuquerque will continue to support and invest in the Community School Initiative by working in conjunction with the ABC-Community Schools Partnership, the Albuquerque Business Education Compact (ABEC), and any federal, state, and local entity that supports the Community School Initiative.
