t
Directing The Administration To Honor Free Passes At All City Operated Swimming Pools (Sanchez)
b
DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO HONOR FREE PASSES AT ALL CITY OPERATED SWIMMING POOLS.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque operates twelve swimming pools throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, ten of the twelve pools are east of the Rio Grande River; and
WHEREAS, the only pool on the Southwest Mesa is the West Mesa Aquatic Center; and
WHEREAS, the Ditch and Water Safety Committee will be distributing an estimated 100,000 free passes for swimming at all the pools except the West Mesa Aquatic Center; and
WHEREAS, the pass for free swimming specifically excludes the West Mesa Aquatic Center and the Sierra Vista Pool; and
WHEREAS, regardless of the exclusion, the free passes for swimming are being honored at the Sierra Vista pool; and
WHEREAS, eleven census tracts west of the Rio Grande River and south of I-40 have a majority of households whose income is below 51% of Albuquerque's Median Income; and
WHEREAS, passes for free swimming will enable those who geographically live close to the West Mesa Aquatic Center to participate in swimming activities in their neighborhood as other residents throughout the City are able to do within their neighborhoods.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1.  The City Council directs the City Administration and the Parks and Recreation Department to honor passes for free swimming distributed by the Ditch and Water Safety Committee at all City operated swimming pools.
Section 2.  This Resolution shall become effective as of the date of passage.
