RESOLUTION
Providing Funding For The Party Patrol Program In FY/11 (Jones, Winter)

PROVIDING FUNDING FOR THE PARTY PATROL PROGRAM IN FY/11.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has as one of its goals to enhance local law enforcement efforts thereby providing for the public safety and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is committed to providing law enforcement to combat underage drinking by reducing alcohol-related crashes, injuries, and deaths; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Police Department's Party Patrol Program is a comprehensive enforcement, prevention and education program designed to prevent underage drinking and the serious consequences that can follow; and
WHEREAS, the program has been extremely successful, as demonstrated by the following data:
· In the past year there has been a 33% decrease of Misdemeanor “Minor in Possession” citations issued by Party Patrol Teams for underage drinking.
· Out of 425 locations checked, only 23 sold alcohol to our minors, which represents a 94.5% compliance rate - one of the best years ever.
· Out of 676 individuals contacted, 14 agreed they had purchased alcohol for a minor. This resulted in felony arrests and a rate of compliance of about 98.0%; and
WHEREAS, in addition, the Party Patrol works with community partners and volunteers to distribute educational materials to individuals of all ages at major community events; and
WHEREAS, Party Patrol Officers are sent out to public and private high schools to educate kids about the dangers of underage drinking. During the course of the year, the APD Party Patrol has made presentations to about 2,500 students in the metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the City Council feels that continued funding for the Party Patrol is essential to the safety of Albuquerque's young people;...
