Approving and Authorizing The Acceptance of A Grant Award From The Corporation For National Service and The New Mexico Aging and Long Term Services Department and Making An Appropriation To The Department of Senior Affairs Retired and Senior Volunteer Program In Fiscal Year 2010 (Lewis, by request)

APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL SERVICE AND THE NEW MEXICO AGING AND LONG TERM SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF SENIOR AFFAIRS RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN FISCAL YEAR 2010.

                     WHEREAS, the 2000 census figures show that there are 84,591 persons age 60 years and over living in Bernalillo County which represents 15% of the County's population; and

                     WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs has developed a coordinated delivery system of services that meets the needs of senior citizens within the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County; and

                     WHEREAS, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program provides a variety of opportunities for persons aged fifty-five (55) and over to participate more fully in the life of their communities through significant volunteer service; and

                     WHEREAS, the Corporation for National Service has allocated funds of $53,669 and the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department has allocated funds in the amount of $51,911 to the Department of Senior Affairs to meet the needs of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program; and

                     WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is eligible to receive these funds and contributes matching funds of $132,070 City funds, which consists of $10,454 for indirect costs and $121,616 City cash match; and

                     WHEREAS, the total cost of the project is $237,650.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:

                     Section 1.  That the attached notice of Grant Award for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in the amount of $105,500 consisting of $53,669 Federal funds and $51,911 in State of New Mexico matching funds is hereby approved and its submission and filing with the appropriate official of the Corporation for National Service and the New Mexico Aging and Long Term Services Department is in all respects approved.

                     Section 2.    That upon approval,  funds in the amount of $237,650, consisting of $53,669 from the Corporation of National Service, $51,911 in New Mexico Aging and Long - Term Services Department, and $132,070 of which $10,454 is for indirect costs from the Transfer to Operating Grant Fund Program in the General Fund are hereby appropriated to the Department of Senior Affairs Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in the Operating Grants Fund, Fund (265) for fiscal year 2010.
