APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING A MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT WITH THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH FOR THE WEST NILE VIRUS SURVEILLANCE AND DATA MANAGEMENT PROGRAM AND MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has as one of its goals to ensure an environment which is adequate to protect the public health and safety of present and future generations; and
WHEREAS, the City is striving to eliminate or reduce the probability of exposure to West Nile Virus and other mosquito-borne diseases; and
WHEREAS, the operation of the Vector Borne/Zoonotic Disease Division of the Environmental Health Department provides the technical means of accomplishing these goals; and
WHEREAS, the New Mexico Department of Health has awarded funding for fiscal year 2008; and
WHEREAS, Congress has provided the Centers for Disease Control with special funding to address requirements for surveillance and data management of the West Nile Virus and will make this funding available for Fiscal Year 2008; and
WHEREAS, the New Mexico Department of Health will fund this program and not require the City of Albuquerque to match any part of the funding; and
WHEREAS, the funds must be appropriated to continue the effort to conduct surveillance for the West Nile Virus and other mosquito-borne diseases.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
