APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE NATURAL RESOURCES DEFENSE COUNCIL (NRDC) AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT BEGINNING IN FISCAL YEAR 2027.
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Sustainability Office will benefit from additional funding appropriated for the purpose to help expand a food waste collection and drop-off pilot; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Sustainability Office received $5,000 from the NRDC in 2024 that help make the food waste collection and drop-off pilot possible in 2025; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Sustainability Office qualified for these funds because of an existing NRDC technical services agreement; and
WHEREAS, there is no match or reporting requirements for this non-competitive funding; and
WHEREAS, the Sustainability Office supports diversion of food and green waste from the landfill to be composted, in alignment with the 2021 Climate Action Plan, the Sustainability Resolution (R-24-34), and Mayor's Food Systems Executive Order (EI No 40); and
WHEREAS, the grant funding, as awarded, would be provided in one lump sum in the amount of $4,500 to the City to be spent from the General Services Department.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That Council hereby approves and authorizes the City of Albuquerque's Sustainability Office to accept the grant appropriated under the NRDC in the amount of $4,500, and its acceptance and filing with appropriate official or office is in all respects approved.
