APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE NEW MEXICO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE DEPARTMENT AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES IN FISCAL YEARS 2026, 2027, 2028, AND 2029.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has been selected by the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department to receive a long-term grant under the New Mexico pre-kindergarten ("NM PreK") program for expansion of services; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor has been informed that the City of Albuquerque is eligible for a four-year grant to be distributed yearly in the amount of $1,764,000 for a total of $7,056,000 in State funds for early childhood activities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque will apply for these grant funds for which there is no City match funds requirement.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That the grant application for the FY26 New Mexico Pre-K program from the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department in the amount of $1,764,000 is approved, and its acceptance and filing with the appropriate official of the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department is in all respects approved.
Section 2. That in the event this grant is awarded, S.tate funds in the amount of $1,764,000 is hereby appropriated to the Departme0nt of Youth and Family Services in the Operating Grant Fund (265), beginning in Fiscal Year 2026.
