APPROVING CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE ALIGNMENT OF THE RIO GRANDE TRAIL.
WHEREAS, in 2018 the Rio Grande Trail (RGT) Commission approved the Rio Grande State Trail Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, the master plan identifies 500 miles of recreational trail alignment following the Rio Grande from Colorado to Texas (NMSA 1978, ? 9-5C-1); and
WHEREAS, the Rio Grande Trail network is intended to include a continuous primary alignment that follows the Rio Grande river as closely as possible; and
WHEREAS, the RGT Commission has authority to officially designate trail segments and it is up to each land manager to approve the alignment through their respective jurisdictions; and
WHEREAS, recreational trails contribute to tourism, health, and quality of life in our local communities; and
WHEREAS, the Rio Grande Trail corridor includes four national wildlife refuges, six national monuments, one national heritage area, and six state parks, touching nearly 10 counties and more than 22 cities and towns; and
WHEREAS, within the City of Albuquerque, the preferred RGT alignment on land follows the Paseo del Bosque Trail, an existing 16-mile multi-use trail facility along the Rio Grande bosque in close proximity to the river; and
WHEREAS, the Paseo del Bosque Trail is uninterrupted by roadways and traverses the Rio Grande Valley State Park, which is managed as Major Public Open Space by the City Parks and Recreation Department; and
WHEREAS, the Paseo del Bosque trail has multiple parking and access points, and provides easy access to major attractions such as Rio Grande Valley State Park, Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, Candelaria Nature Preserve, the City of Albuquerq...
