APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS FROM A NEW MEXICO OUTDOOR RECREATION DIVISION TRAILS+ GRANT AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MUNICIPAL DEVELOPMENT IN FISCAL YEAR 2026.
WHEREAS, the City desires to promote quality of life and accessibility of neighborhoods, and to promote public health welfare, safety convenience and prosperity; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Rail Trail is a priority project for increasing bicyclist and pedestrian safety in the greater Downtown area; and
WHEREAS, the West Old Town segment of the Rail Trail will connect the trail to some of the City's most popular destinations, increasing accessibility and safety; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Municipal Development (DMD) is committed to improving the physical infrastructure in the City of Albuquerque and to advancing key projects; and
WHEREAS, on January 29, 2026, the City applied for a State of New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division Trails+ grant for $1,000,000 to support construction of the West Old Town Rail Trail project; and
WHEREAS, on March 17, 2026, the City was notified that an award was granted; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque approves appropriation of these funds to DMD to help in the construction of the West Old Town Rail Trail project.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That the Council hereby approved and authorizes the Department of Municipal Development to accept the grant in the amount of $1,000,000 from the State of New Mexico. The submission ...
