Assigning Funds From The Sale Of The Coronado Dog Park Property (Baca)

WHEREAS, EC-24-10 declares the Coronado Dog Park as nonessential for public purposes and surpluses the land for sale from the City inventory of real estate; and
WHEREAS, Coronado Dog Park is the last remaining remanent of Coronado Park that for nearly a century provided an oasis of stately elm trees and soft grass for the residents of the Wells Park Neighborhood, Downtown, and the near North Valley; and
WHEREAS, the absence of the dog park will decrease the recreation opportunities for residents of Wells Parks and nearby neighborhoods impacting the quality of life in their communities; and
WHEREAS, for the purpose of equity and inclusion, it is necessary that revenue from the sale of the land for the Coronado Dog Park is reinvested into recreation opportunities in the neighborhoods impacted by the loss of the park; and
WHEREAS, the Wells Park Tree Canopy is an integral part of the neighborhood's quality of life and is experiencing a die-off from trees reaching their end of life or succumbing to the on-going drought and water conservation measures. It is necessary that the City partner with neighborhood residents to reestablish a healthy and resilient tree canopy.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
SECTION 1. The Administration upon receipt of the revenue generated from the sale of the Coronado Dog Park property designated for surplus through EC-24-10 shall appropriate the revenue to the Fund 305 Activity number 7278090 'D2 CSA SR, FAMILY, CC CTR COM ENH' account to construct a "Wells Park Neighborhood Trees and Beautification Project."
