Reappointment of Ms. Susan M. Selbin to the Board of Ethics & Campaign Practices

Per Article XII, Section 3 of the City Charter, the City Council is required to appoint three members to the City’s Board of ethics and Campaign Practices. The term of one of the City Council’s members on the Board, Ms. Susan M. Selbin, ends July 31, 2023. Ms. Selbin is eligible for reappointment and is willing to continue to serve on the Board.
Ms. Selbin’s resume has been published on the City Clerk’s web page as required by the City Charter and is attached for your review.
Should Ms. Selbin be re-appointed, the members of the Board of ethics and their terms would be:

Professional Experience
Foreign Service Officer, Department of State Washington, DC and foreign posts.
Management Officer (Human Resources, General Services, Budget) in U.S. Embassies in Mexico, various Africa Countries south of the Sahara, the Middle East, and Indonesia for total of 20 years plus part-time consulting. Worked mainly with local staff, providing technical skill- building courses by experts. I provided workshops on the ethics of working for the USG and development of related English language skills. Coordinated with USAID Programs.
U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer, 3 tours - Teacher Trainer is Swaziland and Liberia - visiting classrooms around the country to assist teachers and organizing in-service teacher training events to address skills and management needs identified. Rural Community Development in Chile, building organizational skills for Mother’s Clubs and community government groups. Directed summer camps on the beach for kids who had never had that experience. Ministry of Education provided the school, the military provided sleeping mats, and food was collected from large farms in the area and prepared by Mother’s Club members.
Education Administrator, Assistant Professor, Classroom Teacher, Fulbight Scholar (India) for 12 years. Worked in Maryland, California, Alaska and New Mexico. San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), I was the Learning Disabilities (LD) Program Coordinator and also met a group of students daily for 90 min. This provided credibility with teachers supervised. Organized a monthly newsletter for teachers to exchange ideas and monthly happy hours for socializing and creating group cohesion. As the Nome Field Coordinator for the University of Alaska, I worked with student teachers in Eskimo Villages, taking bush flights in and staying overnight in schools and clinics to have sufficient time to work with teachers. I brought lettuce and veggies, so my visits were especially appreciated. Classroom LD teacher at Ernie Pyle Middle School in Albuquerque.
