APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE NATIONAL RECREATION AND PARKS ASSOCIATION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NIKE AND U.S. OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE ON “HOW TO COACH KIDS AND HOW TO COACH GIRLS,” AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS TO THE DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES.

                     WHEREAS, the Community Recreation and Educational Initiatives Division of the Department of Youth and Family Services will benefit from this funding appropriated in order to train 60 staff in how to coach kids and how to coach girls; and

                     WHEREAS, the Community Recreation and Educational Initiatives Division applied for and was awarded these funds based on current sports programming within the Division; and

                     WHEREAS, the Community Recreation and Educational Initiatives Division will use these funds to boost the level of professionalism within the City of Albuquerque’s community center programs to include, but not limited to basketball, flag football, volleyball, and soccer; and

                     WHEREAS, the grant funding, as awarded, would be provided in one lump sum in the amount of $2,500 to the City to be spent from the Department of Youth and Family Services, and no matching funds are required.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:

                     Section 1. That Council hereby approves and authorizes the City of Albuquerque’s Community Recreation and Educational Initiatives Division to accept the grant appropriated under the NATIONAL RECREATION AND PARKS ASSOCIATION (NRPA) in the amount of $2,500, and its acceptance and filing with the appropriate official or office is in all respects approved.

                     Section 2. That the funds in the amount of $2,500 from the NRPA are hereby appropriated to the Department of Youth and Family Services in the Operating Grants Fund (265).
