Re-Appointment of Rachel E. Hawkins to the Biological Park Advisory Board

body

DATE:                      April 4, 2025

I am pleased to submit Rachel E. Hawkins for re-appointment to the Biological Park Board, District 4 Representative. Ms. Hawkins term expired March 1, 2025. As per City of Albuquerque Ordinance § 10-2-2-2, Biological Park Advisory Board appointments are appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Council, and appointments shall be for a term of three years, which may be renewed once.

APPOINTEE NAME                                                               TERM

Ms. Rachel E. Hawkins                                                               March 1, 2028

Albuquerque, NM 87113

Ms. Hawkins has over 25 years of experience working with children; a key demographic area for the Biopark. One of her reasons for wanting to become a member of the board is to help discover ways to encourage students to visit, particularly those who have never been to the zoo or aquarium; a life experience they are missing. A second reason is to help identify and solve problems for the Biopark so that the facilities are more user friendly to those with disabilities. Due to her particular knowledge and experience working with people with disabilities, including her mother, she would be able to make suggestions for improvement. Ms. Hawkins enjoys reading (she recently installed a Little Library at her home), movies, the theater, wining & dining, gardening, and travel. Her favorite place in the city is the zoo--she has been a member since 2003 and always encourages friends and out of towners to visit. Although Ms. Hawkins enjoys visiting other zoos herself (Denver, San Diego, Australia) she has determined that the ABQ zoo is aesthetically one of the best. Ms. Hawkins is dedicated, generous, loyal, helpful, respectful, and kind and would be a great advocate for the Biopark. She was a member of the Junior League for over 10 years and she would appreciate another opportunity to serve the community.

A resident of Council District 4, Ms. Hawkins will fill a vacancy and serve as the representative for District 4; her second term will expire on March 1, 2028.
