Directing The Administration To Support Local Performing Arts In City Council District 2, Conduct A Minimum Number Of Events At City-Owned Performance Spaces, And Simplify The Rental Process For City-Owned Performance Spaces (Baca)

WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque's Arts and Culture Department manages City-owned performance spaces; and
WHEREAS, there are multiple City-owned performance spaces in City Council District 2, including but not limited to the KiMo Theatre and the South Broadway Cultural Events Center; and
WHEREAS, increasing the frequency of programming at City-owned performance spaces would promote cultural enrichment and community engagement; and
WHEREAS, providing more opportunities for performance and exhibition would support local artists, performers, and cultural organizations; and
WHEREAS, local cultural organizations wanting to rent out City-owned performance spaces are currently facing challenges completing the rental process; and
WHEREAS, streamlining the rental process for City-owned performances would support a thriving local performing arts community.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
SECTION 1. The Arts and Culture Department shall work with local cultural organizations to enhance accessibility and utilization of City-owned performance spaces in City Council District 2. The Arts and Culture Department shall hold a minimum of twelve events each month.
SECTION 2. Programming developed by the Arts and Culture Department and local cultural organizations shall include a wide variety of local artists, musicians, actors, and other types of performing artists.
