DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO CREATE AN ACTION PLAN TO ENSURE LOCAL POLICIES ARE PRIORITIZING THE BEST INTERESTS OF CHILDREN AND YOUTHS.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque recognizes the importance of creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all its residents, including children and young people; and
WHEREAS, children and young people represent the future of Albuquerque, and their well-being is critical to the long-term prosperity and vibrancy of the City; and
WHEREAS, an age-friendly City plan specifically designed for children and young people can enhance their quality of life, promote their physical and mental health, and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the UNICEF USA Child-Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) provides a child rights framework aimed at integrating the rights, voices, needs, and priorities of children into public policies, programs, and decisions, ensuring communities are truly child-friendly; and
WHEREAS, the CFCI framework emphasizes five priority areas for child-friendly communities: safety and inclusion, children's participation, equitable social services, safe living environments, and opportunities for play and leisure; and
WHEREAS, Albuquerque's commitment to becoming a Child-Friendly City aligns with global best practices and frameworks such as those outlined by the UNICEF USA CFCI, promoting the safety, health, and happiness of children and young people; and
WHEREAS, the development of an age-friendly City plan will involve sustainable mechanisms for meaningful child and youth participation, enhancing their awareness of rights and encouraging ci...
