Adopting A Proposition To Be Sent To The Voters At The 2024
General Election, Proposing To Amend Article II Of The City Charter Related To City Council Election Cycles (Pe?a)

WHEREAS, Pursuant to Article VI of the Albuquerque City Charter,
amendments to the Charter may be proposed by the Council and must be
approved by a vote of a majority of all Councilors plus one.
BE IT PROPOSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE
CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
SECTION 1. The City Clerk shall place the summary, title, and text of the
following proposition on the ballot of the 2024 General Election, and City of
Albuquerque voters shall be permitted to vote "for" or "against":
SUMMARY
Proposing to amend the City Charter to modify the election cycle of certain City Council districts so that no City Council election falls in the same year as a Mayoral election.
PROPOSITION
Proposing to amend the City Charter of the City of Albuquerque as follows:
"ARTICLE II. ELECTIONS.
SECTION 2. ELECTION DATES.
[(A) This section (A) shall be valid and enforceable until November 5th, 2025, at which point Subsections (B) and (C) shall be the regulating section for this Charter.] The Council[l]ors representing even-numbered Districts shall be elected by the voters to four- year terms at the regular municipal election held on October 7, 1975. The Mayor and the Council[l]ors representing odd- numbered Districts shall be elected by the voters to four- year terms at the regular municipal election held on October 4, 1977.
