ESTABLISHING THE ROUTE 66 CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION 2025-2026 PROJECT PLAN AS A POLICY PLAN; DESIGNATING THE DEPARTMENT OF ARTS AND CULTURE AS THE PROJECT PLAN COORDINATOR; DIRECTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ARTS AND CULTURE TO PROVIDE CITY COUNCIL WITH QUARTERLY UPDATES PER R-23-175 AND R-24-11.
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque has a rich history deeply intertwined with the iconic Route 66, which has played a significant role in shaping the cultural identity of the region; and
WHEREAS, the Route 66 Centennial Celebration recognizes the enduring contributions of Native American, Hispanic, and other communities whose rich traditions and histories have woven a tapestry of cultural diversity along the historic route; and
WHEREAS, Route 66 spans over 18 miles in Albuquerque, which is the longest urban stretch of the historic route in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the year 2026 marks a historic milestone in the journey of Route 66, celebrating a century of memories, connections, and the spirit of exploration; and
WHEREAS, the Route 66 Centennial Celebration will give the City of Albuquerque and the community at large the opportunity to showcase the diverse cultural heritage, artistic expressions, and economic contributions inspired by Route 66, fostering a sense of unity and appreciation for the City's vibrant community spirit and interconnected history; and
