Mayor's Appointment of Ms. Maurreen Skowran to the Albuquerque Housing Authority Board

body

I am submitting for your advice and consent the following name for appointment to the

Albuquerque Housing Authority Board in accordance with the City of Albuquerque

Resolution 10-97.

APPOINTEE NAME                                                                                      TERM

Ms. Maureen Skowran                                                                                   December 1, 2024 6350 Eubank Boulevard NE, Apartment 1212 Albuquerque, NM 87111-7355  When she ran for City Council in 2019, affordable housing was a key plank in Ms. Skowran’s platform. Since then, she has increased her knowledge of the subject, such as by reading the book “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City,” by Matthew Desmond. She is also familiar with the May 2020 Albuquerque Affordable Housing and Homelessness Needs Assessment by the Urban Institute. Her background would complement that of the current members of the Albuquerque Housing Authority Board of Housing Commissioners. She is familiar with the boards work from her time on the executive committee of the American Copy Editors Society. Her professional experience spans service in the Marine Corps, journalism, and data analysis. She pays attention to both detail and the big picture, along with the patterns in between. As a geography graduate, she recognizes the significance of environmental factors. Because her father was in the Air Force, she grew up nomadic. But she always knew she would have a warm bed. She asks to serve on the AHA board to help steer the organization, so more Albuquerque residents can have reliable shelter.  A resident of Council District 8, Ms. Skowran will serve in an at large position on the board and her first term will expire December 1, 2024.
