City of Albuquerque Resolution 19-117.

Dr. Ellen Bernstein is the President of the Albuquerque Teachers Federation and was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She attended the University of New Mexico, where she earned a Bachelor's in Elementary Education, a Master's in Special Education, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr. Bernstein began her career in public education as a sign language interpreter, prior to becoming a classroom teacher, and taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools for a total of 17 years. Over the course of her teaching career, she developed expertise in multi-age level teaching and inclusion. Dr. Bernstein achieved National Board Certification in 1997 and renewed her certificate in 2007. She is active in the American Federation of Teachers and serves as the Vice Chair of the AFT's Teacher Program and Policy Council. She is a collaborative partner with many public sector endeavors and works to connect her membership with issues that impact their students and their families.

A resident of Council District 6, Dr. Bernstein will serve as a City Representative on the Committee for the ordinance groups of Community Organizations and Educational Agencies. Her term will expire June 30, 2020.
