Approving And Authorizing The Acceptance Of Grant Funds From The W.K. Kellogg Foundation And Providing An Appropriation To The Legal Department For Fiscal Year 2019 (Peña, by request)

APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE W.K. KELLOGG FOUNDATION AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2019.

WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Office of Equity and Inclusion in the Legal Department is responsible for overseeing implementation of the Human Rights Ordinance; and

WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Human Rights Ordinance derives from The Albuquerque City Charter; and

WHEREAS, the Human Rights Ordinance urges the city to use its best efforts to promote mutual trust, understanding and respect among the citizens of the Albuquerque community and between the citizens and their governmental agencies; and

WHEREAS, the Human Rights Ordinance allows for research and investigation into the existence, cause, prevention, and remedy of inter-group tensions, hostility, prejudice and discrimination within the community; and

WHEREAS, the Human Rights Ordinance allows for programs of information and education within the community so as to advise citizens of their existing rights and opportunities; and

WHEREAS, the Human Rights Ordinance allows for close cooperation with all public and private agencies within the community whose aims or activities are consistent with the purpose stated herein; and

WHEREAS, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation sponsors the National Day of Racial Healing; and

WHEREAS, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation has provided a grant to the City of Albuquerque Office of Equity and Inclusion to host an event to promote the National Day of Racial Healing; and

WHEREAS, The Office of Equity and Inclusion is committed to using the grant to carry out the purposes of the Human Rights Ordinance; and

WHEREAS, the grant would be dispersed immediately.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:

                     Section 1. That the agreement with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in the amount of $25,000 is hereby approved, and its acceptance and filing with appropriate official or office is an in all respects approved.

                     Section 2. That funds in the amount of $25,000 are hereby appropriated to the Legal Department Office of Equity and Inclusion in the Operating Grants Fund (265) for Fiscal Year 2019.
