Reserving Council Project Funds To Provide For Community Arts Projects Related To The History And Culture Of The Atrisco Area Of The City Of Albuquerque (Peña)

WHEREAS, the proposed Arte Escondido (Hidden Arts) project will focus on a collaboration with local Hispano artists to produce art projects that will spur economic and community development within the Atrisco Southwest area of the City; and
WHEREAS, the Arte Escondido project will feature the rich Hispano customs and traditions that have been passed down over generations and have added to the multi-cultural climate of the City; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Atrisco: A Community History project will initiate and facilitate a video history of the Atrisco area, which has a rich and distinctive past that is intertwined with Albuquerque’s heritage; and
WHEREAS, the Atrisco: A Community History project will include a discussion of the Atrisco Land Grant and how its communities have shaped the present and future of Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, unused funding is available in the Council Projects activity to provide for cultural programs.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. Funding of $32,000 from the Council Projects activity in the Capital Acquisition Fund (305) is hereby designated for the following arts and cultural projects:
Artes Escondido (Hidden Arts) $16,000
Atrisco: A Community History $16,000
Section 2. Council staff is directed to administer and monitor agreements with the respective organizations for the programs described in Section 1, and report back to the Council on the final productions of the programs.
